Last night we got a sneak peek at an upcoming notebook from ASUS that’s due to give major competition to the Apple MacBook Air and the Samsung Series 9. The Ultrabook (UX21) is an all-metal, super thin and light notebook. There’s not much information on this to go around — no final pricing and availability hasn’t been set in stone — but we’ll tell you what we know.

The model we saw last night was an 11.6-inch machine, but there will likely be a 13.3-inch version as well. The body is made of aluminum, polished is a subtle circular pattern. It’s not unibody like the MacBook Air (we spied screws on the bottom) but does feel very solid and sturdy. We were very impressed to see that it’s only 17mm on the thicker end. Internal specs include a second-generation Core i7 processor (a Core i5 version also might become available) and SSDs starting at 64GB and possibly going up to 128GB or even 160GB.  Though we didn’t get to see it running software, ASUS tells us that the UX21 will have an instant-on feature.

Low-Cost Laptops set to Roll Out After 6 years: Six years after it was conceived, the first batch of 10,000 laptops – called the HRD low cost of entry-cum-computing device – would be delivered at IIT-Rajasthan at the end of June, and during the next four months would be available at Rs 90,000 each in 2200.
The announcement was made ??Wednesday at the conference of education ministers of state. “Ministry officials said once the supply of one lakh units is made??, each state would have 3000 pieces. We have to admit, this is one stylish notebook.  It uses two colors, black on the outside and silver on the inside, making it look professional and business-like. Even if it has a small size, the keyboard takes advantage of every inch and fits just right inside. Keys are wide and very nicely spaced, typical for <strong>Acer notebooks</strong>, making typing comfortable and enjoyable. There are no media control keys, just a single shortcut key that can launch any application or function you want. The touch pad is a tad smaller, but if you get the right touch you make scrolling a lot faster.  Now for the display, it has a 1366x768 pixels resolution and it is right for web surfing, documents, watching some movies. The screen is pretty bright, clear and all accompanied by the Dolby Home Theater speakers.



To conclude, there are some of the ports provided, including VGA, HDMI, headphone and microphone jacks, three USB ports and networking can be established using the following options: Ethernet, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Being a travel companion more, this Acer Time line X notebook might benefit from the lack of the optical drive, in some cases you might not even need one and if you would have to choose between one and a slim and stylish profile, I think you would go for the design.
